1902 - The Father of Football ‘Walter Muir' McFarlane’ - The First Waybacks Captain
In 1903 aged 21 years, Muir McFarlane organised the first football match ever played in Port Lincoln. He captained Waybacks from 1903 to 1909 and again in 1920, he served the club in countless ways and could be described as the ‘father of football’ in Port Lincoln.
1903 - The First Football Match
The first football match played in Port Lincoln was in 1903 and the foundation members of Waybacks Football Club took part. They included Muir McFarlane, Ron Sinclair, Ken Hambly and Mac Hyde, Rue Hage, Fred Hardy, Andrew Wilinson, Stafford Cavanagh, Charlie, Ross and Tom Safe, Ed Simmons and George Williams.
